Wood is not a material – wood is an attitude
After my professional training as a carpenter, I worked in several carpentries and on a biological farm before I decided to study architecture. Since the first bachelor semesters I combine my woodworking knowledge with my interest in digital tools and technology. 2017 till 2019 I have deepened my skills at the ITECH postgraduate program, at the University of Stuttgart.
2020 till 2023 I have been employed at the BFH/AHB applied Science Uni in Biel at the institute for Digital Economy in Construction and Wood Industry IDBH and focused on complex digital timber construction and integrated robotic fabrication.
Since spring 2023 I`m employed at the HSLU Fachhochschule as dozent for digital wood construction and at Makiol Wiederkehr Makiol Wiederkehr AG wood construction engineers as a geometry and wood construction specialist.
Summer 2024: One more part time job: Hands on Wood: Since summer 2024, alongside my two part-time roles as a lecturer in digital timber construction at HSLU and as a process optimizer at Makiol Wiederkehr, I’m also working part time at Holzbiegewerk Winkler. Here, too, I am a programmer of complex geometry for exciting wood projects, but not exclusively; I work as well actively in the workshop. With my hands on the wood, I am reconnecting with my nearly twenty-year-old carpenter roots, (re)learning once again to confidently distinguish ash, oak, beech, larch, maple, walnut, and cherry under various lights. At Winkler I am part of the entire process—not just observing the flow from artistic design and digital geometry to the often hands-on fabrication of complex steam-bending projects, but actually contributing at every stage. This immersion allows me to contribute meaningfully at all levels, rather than just staring at a flat screen. Long live WOOD, the CRAFT, and here, the FULL-STEAM bent form! It feels great to breathe in workshop air again after so long.
Thanks to all who helped to make this possible:)
